Group therapy for adults who were abused and/or neglected as children.

Common issues for those raised in this environment:

  • Difficulty trusting appropriately
  • Feelings of shame, unworthiness, and low self-esteem
  • Tendency to sacrifice own needs and desires in order to please others
  • Repressing or “stuffing” feelings
  • Difficulty relaxing/letting guard down/”waiting for the other shoe to drop”
  • Struggling with fears and barriers to intimacy
  • Control issues: feelings of having to be completely in control or, conversely, feeling completely out of control
  • Being very hard on self/self-critical

What occurs in group?

With the assistance of a professional facilitator, the group provides a safe and nurturing atmosphere that allows individuals to:

  • Release long-repressed fears, wounds, and resentments
  • Experiment with issues of trust, sharing, and safety
  • Receive support from others with similar issues
  • Build self-esteem through being listened to, validated, supported and encouraged
  • Improve communication skills and ability to trust appropriately (which are absolutely necessary for healthy relationships)
  • Live more fully and with more satisfaction in the present
